A tendering process has been put out with most of the seven Australian A-League clubs bidding for the subscription TV hit, including North Queensland Fury.

It's understood Fury believe they have a natural advantage in staging the show as they already have a number of regional trials for would-be A-League players in north Queensland.

And it would be a handy way to promote a new A-League club.

It's understood the tendering process will involve the FFA in conjunction with Foxtel.

Adelaide United would also be seen as a favourite after the club's stellar season and the fact that they wont't compete in an ACL campaign in the A-League off-season.

The program has often been described as Football Idol with a number of wannabe stars aiming to impress the judges with the ultimate winner being awarded a full-time A-League youth team contract for one season at the hosting club.

Show insiders say that while the program is not officially confirmed for 2009 – an announcement on that will be made in the next week – last season's ratings were "very encouraging".

The FOX8 show's ratings "far exceeded expectations in 2008" says one insider.

The show's premiere was one of the highest ever ratings on the channel, added the insider.

Last season's inaugural winner of Football Superstar, 19-year-old Perth-born midfielder Adam Hett sadly has not been able to make any impact at Sydney FC with a knee injury, ruling him out for the year shortly after joining the sky blues.

The program's judge was John Kosmina, whose club Sydney FC hosted the programme.

Insiders add that presenters Amy Taylor and Brian McFadden were a good chance to be retained should the show, as expected, be green-lighted.
