City currently sit second behind Sydney FC on goal difference after taking maximum points from their first two games following wins over Wellington Phoenix (1-0) and Melbourne Victory (4-1).

They now look to Friday night's first home game of the season when they lock horns with Perth Glory – a team with its own title aspirations.

The Uruguayan said while his team dominated the Melbourne Derby, he wanted his team to build on its impressive form.

“Yes I think at the moment (best performance of his time), but I think the best is coming,” Fornaroli said. “I think we need to take this pressure, I like it, also when you start the season like this, you win two games away and also Sydney won two games.

“This is a long season, we need to keep calm and continue to work and that’s it.

“Now this is football and you win one game like the derby and now finish so we need to think about the next game, the next step and it’s also a big game, Perth is a very good team and it’s the first game at home, so we need to continue in this way.”

The South American flavour in City’s squad was a big talking point for Fornaroli after the signings of Argentine’s Fernando Brandan and Nicolas Colazo.

Fornaroli, who now holds the captain's armband after winning the golden boot last season, praised the way Brandan and Colazo had settled at the club.

“I’m happy for them (Colazo and Brandan), sometimes it’s hard when you change the country, different language, but nothing’s changed for them, they play like it’s their home, it feels like home,” he said.

“This is important for them, not only for them but for us, they help the team and this is great.

“I think inside the pitch there’s only one language and this is easy for us.”

Fornaroli was unknown here before arriving last year but is now a talking point after his super season.

He said he envisaged Brandan and Colazo would replicate the reputation he created for himself.

“We hope Fernando and Nico for the end of the season that everybody talks about them and say they’re great players,” he said.

“I also want at the end of the season the people to talk about this team, this is a very good team and for this we need to win, so the people can’t talk when you’re second.

“Of course (they will improve), it’s only two games for them, when we continue to play more games, go more to the inside the team, I think he’s level will go up.”

Fornaroli said the extra responsibility of the captaincy would not hinder his performances.

“I feel great, it’s a great moment for us, I’m happy for this (the captaincy), I’m happy to come every day here, train and stay with my teammates, for me it’s beautiful,” Fornaroli said.

“I don’t feel this pressure, of course, when everyone speaks about how we have a good team, maybe we need to win the league and you feel this.

“It’s important when people talk like this, they say we have a great team and we can win the league so I’m happy.”
