The former Uruguay coach had a pre-arranged press conference set down prior to training at 5.30pm this afternoon but shortly before he abruptly told officials he did not want to speak.
Red-faced Qatari officials were hoping to persuade their coach to speak after training.
Meanwhile, Fossati may be happier if the Qatari federation's appeal regarding star striker Sebastian Quintana is successful.
Uruguayan-born Quintana, who trained with the group today, has been ruled out of the game due to suspension. However the QFA are appealing the card and should know if that appeal is successful in the next 24 hours.
He is a vital player for the side having scored all three goals for Qatar at the 2007 Asian Cup in Vietnam. Quintana, 24, also played in Qatar's recent friendly against Denmark.
And Marconi Amoral, a Brazilian recruit to the Qatar national team, trained today in Melbourne with what appeared to be a Hannibal Lecter style brace around his chin and mouth. It is unclear how he picked up the injury.
