Real Salt Lake's first three wins in their current run of success had come at home but they took that good form into the Home Depot Center with Chris Wingert opening the scoring in first-half injury time.

Justin Braun got Chivas back on level terms with 10 minutes to go but the home side were consigned to their third straight defeat in the 89th minute when Fabian Espindola found the net.

The win sent Real Salt Lake into second place in the MLS Western Conference, nine points behind runaway leaders the Los Angeles Galaxy, the team they beat on penalty kicks last November to seal the 2009 title.

Also on 16 points but behind Salt Lake on goal difference are the San Jose Earthquakes and the Houston Dynamo, who both won on the road on Saturday.

The Earthquakes kept a clean sheet for the fourth game in a row as they beat the Seattle Sounders 1-0 in front of nearly 36,000 at Qwest Field thanks to Chris Wondolowski's fifth goal in six games.

San Jose, who won only seven times in 2009, now have five wins from their first eight games of the 2010 campaign and have not conceded a goal in 363 minutes of play.

The Dynamo were comfortable 2-0 winners in Washington DC as they sent DC United to their eighth defeat in nine games this season with a goal in each half, Danny Cruz opening the scoring in the 10th minute of his first MLS start before Dominic Oduro doubled the lead in the 55th.

Chad Barrett's 53rd minute goal gave Toronto FC a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution and maintained the Canadians' unbeaten home record at BMO Field.

The defeat for Steve Nicol's side was the Revs' seventh game without a win having scored only twice in that stretch since a 4-1 home win over Toronto on April 20. Toronto are unbeaten in May and have climbed to third in the Eastern Conference behind leaders Columbus and second-place New York.
