The veteran striker has proved an instant hit at Westpac Stadium, scoring a memorable goal on his debut against Brisbane Roar.

But the CEO has revealed just how the move for Dadi came about - thanks to this website.

"I was back in Melbourne for a few days and was reading au.fourfourtwo.com. There was an article which suggested Eugene wasn't in the picture (at the Perth) and it got me thinking," said Pignata.

"I got in touch with Ricki (Herbert) to see if he would be interested in a move for Eugene. He said he was and then I cleared it with Terry (Serepisos). The next day I spoke to Perth and things moved from there.

"They said they were prepared to release him, I got the number of his agent and then we spoke to Eugene. Eugene was keen to come after talks, he jumped on a plane and we're delighted that he's here.

"I know people are still talking about that goal. I'm sure it looked great on television but it was even better to see it live."

Pignata said Dadi had made an instant connection with the Phoenix supporters and hoped the striker could build on his dream start.

"The fans gave Eugene a real roar for his first game and then he found himself mobbed as he left the after-match function. They were all slapping him on the back. Eugene's a lovely guy and he's fitted in well," added the Phoenix CEO.

"Now we look to the next match and hopefully Eugene can contribute again as we look for a finals spot for the first time in the club's history.

"I was at training today and there was a real buzz."
