FOURTEEN people were arrested after a series of raids ordered by an Argentinian judge investigating irregularities in the transfers of footballers to overseas leagues.
Federal judge Norberto Oyarbide ordered 110 raids in Buenos Aires and other provinces, reportedly including searches in the Italian consulate located in Pinamar and at top-flight side Lanus.
The investigation began last year after a report revealed the possible falsification of Argentinian footballers` passports to play in foreign competitions.
Judge Oyarbide imposed the "secret of indictment" to prevent the clubs or players involved in the cases from being named.
"There are affairs that were reported to Italian authorities, who are already investigating," commented Italy general consul in Argentina Giancarlo Curicio to TN television network.
