ROBBIE Fowler's agonising wait for action could be over with the North Queensland Fury striker desperate to play a part against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Perth tomorrow night.
The marquee forward has made the long trip west with his teammates and took part in their training session yesterday evening. It is likely that coach Ian Ferguson will bide his team before deciding whether to give Fowler his chance but the player himself cannot wait to pull on his boots.
Speaking to The West Australiant after the session, he said: "I'm hoping to be involved. In terms of fitness I'm probably miles behind the rest of the lads but as everyone knows you get that through games."
He admitted that his lack of involvement so far had been horrible but he could now see some light at the end of the tunnel.
The ex Liverpool hero was linked with a swift return home last week when a report claimed he was a target for Tranmere Rovers. Fowler has since rubbished the suggestion and insisted he's happy in Townsville.
Fowler received a warm welcome when he landed in Perth with numerous Liverpool supporters on hand at the airport eager for an autograph and a photograph. But yesterday's post-training interview was the first in some time with the striker admitting that he's been focused on his fitness battle rather than media matters.
As for Fury's opponents, Wolves defender Christophe Berra is relishing the chance of trying to tame Fowler.
He told the Express and Star: "He was a big player when I was growing up and he scored a bag-load of goals. He's done a lot in his career and he's still got quality so we'll have to watch him closely. He's a class finisher."
