Round Six of the Victorian Premier League sees a blockbuster Sunday with four action packed games with the pick of them being the clash between South Melbourne and Richmond.
Altona Magic and Green Gully kick off proceedings on Saturday night at Paisley Park with the home side looking to kick-start its stuttering title defence. It won't be easy for the Magic as the Green Gully defence has been in fine form, having not conceded a goal so far this season. Draws were the order of the day when these two teams met last season so one would also expect a tight contest this time around.
Oakleigh kicks off an action packed Sunday as host the struggling Preston Lions at Jack Edwards. The Cannons will be hoping that their run of three consecutive 1-0 losses at home will come to an end against a Preston side that has the worst defensive record of any VPL side.
Sunday also sees a clash between the two newly promoted sides, Sunshine Georgies and Dandenong Thunder. Whilst both teams have had contrasting starts to their VPL campaigns, the Georgies will be hoping their last start win will give them the confidence to upstage the Thunder in front of their home fans at Chaplin Reserve. It promises to be an entertaining match.
The Melbourne Knights will be looking to bounce back from their last start loss to Green Gully when meet former co-tenant Hume City also on Sunday afternoon in what looms as a must win game for both teams.
South Melbourne also hosts Richmond at Bob Janes Stadium on Sunday afternoon in what many consider to be the match of the round. The Eagles will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season whilst South Melbourne will be looking to build on their run of three consecutive wins. It is sure to be a test of both teams' title ambitions.
In the last match of the round, Heidelberg United takes on the struggling Whittlesea Zebras on Monday night at the Olympic Village. With no points so far this season the Zebras will be hoping that they can break their duck. However they will find the going tough, as Heidelberg will be full of confidence coming off a 4-0 thrashing of defending champions, Altona Magic
