Agius struck twice in his team's 3-2 win over the Reds and he admitted it was a major relief to taste a triumph at last.

"It was  just good to get a win," he said. "We've been working on the goals for a while and there were a few stinkers in Sydney so it's good to hit the back of the net for a change.

"It's only pre-season so of course we're all looking forward to getting better.

"It's been a long pre-season and we've travelled a lot so it's good to get that first win. There's been a lot of doubters in such a short time so it's good that we could prove it and hold our head high with a win."

John Tambouras led Fury in his home town in front of a crowd hungry for A-League action and the Darwin boy was ecstatic with the victory.

"We're all rapt obviously, but it's we're still in pre-season and we have to build on this," he said.

"Obviously beating Adelaide here in Darwin was what we needed and we'll go back to Townsville and  get ready for August 8 against Sydney, we're looking forward to it.

"It was great to come out of the tunnel and see the crowd and hopefully we can get a few more games up here because the atmosphere was fantastic."
