Veteran Thailand striker Kiatisak "Zico" Senamuang will be used in a limited capacity by coach Chanvit Polchovin at the upcoming AFC Asian Cup.
The AFC Asian Cup co-hosts, who have been drawn in Group A alongside Australia, Oman and Iraq, have recently completed a two-week pre-tournament training camp in Germany before facing Qatar on Saturday.
Senamuang, 33, was named in Chanvit's preliminary 30-man squad and is expected to recover from injury in time to be named in the final squad after coming off the bench during the 3-1 friendly defeat by Holland earlier this month.
The talismanic forward had missed the 1-0 victory against China through injury.
"Zico's physical condition is now much better," Chanvit told The Nation newspaper. "His fitness is no longer an issue.
"However, I don't expect to see the same Zico as he gets older and hasn't played in a competitive match for a while.
"He is a utility player for us. I will consider what role will suit him the best in each game."
Chanvit admitted he was pleased with the trip to Germany after seeing positive signs from his side in terms of fitness and tactics, but has revealed his side were not stretched in defence by domestic opposition.
Thailand beat amateurs TSV Lennarts 8-1 and claimed a 2-1 victory over Borussia Fulda before rounding off the tour with a 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt's Under-23 side.
"We were unable to test our defence as I had expected in our three warm-up matches because our opponents were all weak," added Chanvit.
"But we still have a game with Qatar this Saturday, which will provide us another opportunity to probe the team."
