The 30-year-old revealed his decision to stay with the Bundesliga side rather than move to the Serie B leaders, who had pulled out all the stops to make him their second signing from the Bundesliga after Bayern's Hasan Salihamidzic.

"I had a fantastic offer from Juventus, but have realised that Bremen is close to my heart," Frings said.

He has extended his contract with Bremen by two years until 2011, although will still earn little over half as much as he would have expected to net in Turin.

Last month, Frings travelled to Turin to talk with Juve representatives but it seems the Italians have been unable to lure him, much to the delight of Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs.

"We allowed Torsten to go to Turin and listen to their offer," Allofs told the club's website.

"That is because we think it is important that a Werder player is here with his heart, and that has become clear to Torsten.

"We have been able to keep hold of an excellent player."
