According to Tinder, there has been a 66% rise in matches during the tournament and a 42% increase in right switches.

There has also been a 24% rise in Passporting to Russia, with Passport a Tinder feature that allows users to change their location and swipe anywhere in the world.

Americans have used the Passport function more than any other nationality in the host country, followed by Britons, Germans, Spaniards, French, Brazilians, Swedes, Danes, Belgians and Indians.

FourFourTwo understands Australians have also been heavy users of Tinder, despite the low population base, in the Socceroo host cities of Kazan, Samara and Sochi.

Just under 37,000 World Cup tickets were bought by Australian passport holders.

One Australian, who has been on four dates while in Russia, is a strong advocate of using Tinder during the tournament.

“Tinder in Russia is amazing,” the Canberran, who declined to be named, said.

“So many friendly and beautiful women who are really curious about the world and open to meeting foreigners. The language barrier can be a problem but it’s a great way to practice your Russian.”

A Melbournian, who matched with one woman in Samara and is hoping for another hook-up in Sochi, told FourFourTwo Tinder is a great way to meet new people during the World Cup.

“I’m using it to naturally meet the beautiful locals,” he said.

“The women are gorgeous and it’s always nice to meet locals and talk to them. Find out about places, what to do, the Russian mentality. I’ve been fairly successful with matching but then not as many will meet up, though I am successful here than Australia!

"I think everyone is interested in meeting new people of all nationalities, not just through Tinder but the bars and clubs as well. There’s a great vibe of friendship and openness.

"A real curiosity to meet people from different parts of the world.”
