ENGLISH giants Arsenal have confirmed they want to sign Fulham's Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
To see the Socceroos back in training...
Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood admitted the club had made a move for the 37-year-old Socceroo but had been turned down by the Cottagers.
"We have made an enquiry for him and they are not prepared to sell him so we have gone away," Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.
"We can only hope they will change their minds, but at the moment it doesn't look like it."
It is believed Arsenal's opening bid for Schwarzer, who has one year left to run on his contract at Craven Cottage, was £3m.
The Daily Star also reports Schwarzer is understood to have told Fulham boss Roy Hodgson he wants to join the Gunners.
A fortnight ago, the Socceroos custodian revealed he knew nothing of Arsenal's interest but it appears the situation has changed.
"I haven't heard anything other than what's been said or written in the papers, so it's purely speculative at the moment," Schwarzer told the ABC late last month.
"I don't see anything changing unless someone tells me otherwise."
