Newcastle attacker Dimi Petratos says he is unconcerned by growing praise for his performances this season and just goes out on the field to have fun.
Petratos has been on fire in the early rounds, scoring four goals and setting up four others for the high-flying Jets, who sit in second place on the A-League ladder.
The 25-year-old's displays have seen him been tipped by some as a bolter for the Socceroos' World Cup squad next year.
But Petratos, who is arguably in career-best form, is keeping his feet on the ground.
"I’m happy how things are going," he said.
"I don’t look into that too much [media attention]. I just want to go out and have fun and play my own game. I just work hard and take every game as it comes. Not think too much, just go out and enjoy myself with my teammates.
"It’s a good start to the season and I’ve just got to continue to perform and do my best."
Petratos started the campaign on the wing but has moved into the number 10 role after the season-ending injury to marquee Ronny Vargas.
"It was very unlucky about Ronny," the former Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC man said.
"But I’ve played in that position before and the way that the team’s playing I’m getting a lot of help around me in the attacking third. We’re doing a lot of great combinations and doing well.
"Ernie has given us a lot of freedom in the front third, which is helping myself and you can see its helping the whole team. With that freedom we have we can express ourselves."
Newcastle has had an impressive start to the season but Petratos, who made his debut for the Sky Blues back in 2010, and his teammates want more.
"Of course we’re happy with how things are going," he said.
"We’re second on the table. We have to keep working at it and our aim is to be first. I don’t see why we should change anything. We’ve had a good week of training. We’ve been doing well."
The Jets take on Melbourne City tonight. Petratos could be a marked man going forward but the laid-back playmaker says that worry him.
"It is just part of the game," he said.
"I have to adapt to it and try work out a way to overcome that situation and help the team. If I am getting man-marked, I will move them around and someone else will take up that position for us. Eventually I will open up space for myself.”
