NORTH Queensland Fury defender John Tambouras has seen his Chinese trial take a dramatic twist with his potential CSL club suddenly relegated in a match-fixing scandal.
Tambouras has been given permission to try out with Guangzhou, a Chinese top flight club when the Fury player touched down in the country.
However, the club has this week been thrown out of the top flight as a result of the scandal.
Another Australian with Fury connections, Brendon Santalab, is also looking at second tier football next season with his club Chengdu Blades also having been relegated as punishment.
But the decision is unlikely to make too much difference to Tambouras, according to his manager Lou Sticca.
''He's probably got a couple of days left and then we'll know if he's going ahead with it," Sticca told the Townsville Bulletin. "'I'm confident by the end of the week we should know one way or the other."
Sticca, who also looks after Santalab's affairs, expects the former Sydney FC man to stay with his club.
