The Adelaide born defender will return to his home state and join the Reds at the end of this season after signing a three year deal with the club which will officially start on April 1, 2009.

Adelaide United Football Director Michael Petrillo, speaking on behalf of coach Aurelio Vidmar who is in China for the AFC Awards, said the club is delighted to have signed Fyfe, and believes his versatility in being able to play in any position across the back will provide great benefit to the squad.

“We’re very pleased to be able to announce the signing of Iain Fyfe,” Petrillo said.

"To be able to pick up a player who has played in a winning championship side with Sydney FC, had Asian Champions League experience, and still be only 26 years of age, was definitely one of the reasons we signed him.

“He is a proven winner, a terrific young man and there is no doubt he will be a great addition to our defence. He will bring experience, versatility and a great character to our playing group.

"We’re looking forward to having Iain join us in April and welcoming home another talented South Australian to Adelaide United Football Club.”

Fyfe, who grew up playing in Adelaide at local club Salisbury United before joining Adelaide City in the old NSL, was a member of Sydney FC’s 2005/06 championship winning squad, and also represented the harbour city in the 2007 AFC Champions League.
