Former City coaches John van’t Schip and Michael Valkanis raised questions over their decision to field Dean Bouzanis before EPL experienced Thomas Sorensen last season.

And Galekovic says there are no guarantees he will be first-choice keeper following the departure of Sorensen.

The 36-year-old spent a decade with former club Adelaide United where he captained the team to their first championship in 2016 and an FFA Cup in 2014, and is keen for similar success at City.

“There’s nothing in my contract (about being No.1), I’ll tell you that,” Galekovic said.

“It’s a long preseason you can’t take it easy. Everyone is at a high standard here, we all want to achieve one thing and that’s to win trophies and we all have to be at our best, so that’s my aim.

“I think when you come to a big club, I think every position and player has to fight for it.

“It’s up to everyone to prove themselves to the coach. It’s a new coach (Warren Joyce) so everyone’s got that chance and my position is to train as much as I can and the best I can and every other player is in the same position.”

Galekovic now returns with familiar faces from the Reds and Socceroos - Scott Jamieson, Bruce Kamau, Michael Valkanis, Ivan Franjic and Tim Cahill.

The 36-year-old is originally from Melbourne and was a peripheral figure in Victory’s 2007 championship campaign.

He now wants to win a third A-League title with City.

“I see it from a club’s point of view, I want to win another championship for Melbourne City, if I can do that I’d be involved in three A-League teams that have done it,” he said.

“It was time to move on (from Adelaide) I think, I got a great opportunity here to hopefully win some trophies with the boys, and we’ve got a great squad.”
