Melbourne City's young striker Corey Gameiro's cruel luck has continued after suffering a third serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The 23-year-old sustained a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee in training last week.
Gameiro previously twice injured in left knee in November 2014 and the same month last year.
The ex-Australia youth international travelled back from Townsville to Melbourne following the injury to undergo scans on Monday.
Gameiro will undergo surgery next week and commence rehabilitation immediately.
The latest injury puts Gameiro's long-term career in some doubt, having only played five competitive games in the past 22 months.
There has been widespread well wishes for Gameiro from the football community.
Thanks heaps guys, I will get through this, I wish everyone at the club well & hope everyone is fit and healthy π https://t.co/CUOHrLiFdt
