Speaking on Foxsports, Daniel Garb said the majority of Victory fans appeared to be against Kevin Muscat staying at Melbourne.

“He was booed relentlessly on Friday night, halftime and then when his image came up on the screen, it went to another level," he said.

“Social media is not always the best judge of things but it can often provide a litmus test as well. I haven’t seen a Victory fan come out in staunch defence of Musky. It’s almost 90-95 per cent staunchly against him, to go, which is damning for him right now.

“And with six months left, the club’s in a tricky situation because there’s clearly an issue there or they would have re-signed him already and we are hearing rumours around the place that that won’t happen."

Victory are now more than 20 points off rivals Sydney FC in fifth place, with a large rebuilding period expected to take place if the club stick with Muscat throughout the season.

After finishing fourth the previous season, Muscat won the A-League Premiership and Championship with Victory in 2014/15, and lost the final last season to Sydney FC. He also won the FFA Cup in 2015.

The next season, Victory scraped into finals in sixth position, evidencing the up-and-down nature of Victory under the former Socceroo's guidance.

“Who knows what transpires but the club re-signs him now, there’s going to be fan dissent. And if they let it run out even more, well it’s obvious that he’s going to leave," Garb said.

“So it’s becoming a very big story right now and it’s amazing how quickly it changes because they were a lick of paint from winning the grand final – James Troisi’s shot hits the crossbar.

“All of a sudden, the manager, he could be gone potentially.”
