The 26-year-old was notified by the Australian coach this week and it has come as no surprise to his club manager at Hull City.

Garcia is part of a City side chasing promotion to the English Premier League and his performances have earned him rave reviews this season.

Although currently struggling for fitness with a shoulder injury Garcia has received a timely boost with news of his call up for the summer internationals.

Australia face five fixtures this summer, and with the Tigers’ rise in publicity en route to the Premier League, manager Phil Brown was delighted to break the news to Garcia.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: “I had a little bet with Richard when he signed for us last summer that we would help him get into the international team.

“It’s great news for Richard and it’s great news for this football club.
“Richard has had a fantastic year since he arrived and this is a great reward for him.”
