Spurs’ Tom Huddlestone was the big August signing at the KC. He joined Curtis Davies from Birmingham, Sunderland’s Ahmed Elmohamady and Yannick Sagbo of Evian.

Garcia, who began pre-season in Sydney last week ahead of the October 10 A-League kick off against Emile Heskey’s Newcastle Jets, is keeping a close eye on events back in Hull.

“They are playing a good style of football and the other night against Manchester City probably should have been in front at half-time.

“That’s the hard thing about being a club that’s newly promoted. It’s hard to attract the players and they might not have the budget to go buy 20-30 goals a season striker.

“So that’s the hard bit. But they are matching it with the best of them, which is positive."

The Tigers have three points from their opening three games and sit third bottom of the English Premier League.

Steve Bruce also brought in experienced keeper Steve Harper on a free, likewise Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa.

Loan players Danny Graham from Sunderland, Jake Livermore also from Tottenham and striker Gedo from Al Ahly will help.  

But Garcia poured cold water over talk of a return to England in January.

“The fans are always on about me coming back to the club but when I left England, I’d made the decision that I was gone for good,” he said.

“I wish them all the best. My heart is with Hull. I spent a good five to six years there (including in the Premier League) so for me it was a big chunk of my professional career.

“A lot of good times there. It’s a big city and they deserve to have a club in the EPL

“I honestly do think they’ll stay up. Maybe if they can add a couple more players in January. I’m sure they’ll stay up. But it’ll be a tight league this season.”
