Garuccio and injured defender Michael Marrone visited the National War Memorial in Adelaide in the lead-up to the Remembrance Round game against Brisbane Roar this Friday.

The Reds sit last on the table with just one point from their Round 1 draw to Newcastle Jets and as the comparisons to last season’s slow start keep arising, it is evident the turnaround needs to come soon.

Garuccio spoke of the chances wasted in the 2-1 loss at home on Sunday to last season’s wooden spooners Central Coast Mariners.

“I don’t think there’s a defensive issue, it’s a whole team collective thing - we’re just a bit low on confidence at the moment,” Garuccio said.

“I think you find in a lot of the games if we had gone maybe 2-0 up or 3-0 up, it would’ve been a completely different game similar to yesterday if we had scored a second, the game would’ve been shut out by half-time.

“We would’ve came out and controlled it in the second half, it’s just one of those things we need to address and obviously get better.

“We weren’t good enough in the second half. Central Coast made a change at half-time, they brought (Mickael) Tavares on and he impacted the game for them and we were very flat in the second half.

“We let them get back into the game and after they scored the first they really looked like getting the second, we didn’t really have any answers for it, so it wasn’t good enough.”

The 21-year-old was at Melbourne City last season where his current team knocked out the Cityzens 4-2 in the semi-final.

Despite the low confidence, Garuccio felt the team’s performances were indicative they could match the Roar on Friday.

“(Coach Guillermo Amor’s) very calm and a professional, his approach… It’s not normal in football to lose three or four matches in a row so there’s going to be a point where we do turn the corner,” he said.

“If you look at the team and the way we’ve been playing for the most part, people can definitely see it coming.

“We can feel it coming, but it’s just about actually doing it on the weekend and we haven’t done that so far but we need to do that this week.

“The main worry is the result at the end of the day, clean sheet is another thing, if you’re keeping clean sheets you’ll probably win games. I think the most important thing to focus on is getting the first win.”

Marrone is still at least three weeks away recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon accumulated in the 2016 Grand Final 3-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Spaniard Sergio Cirio (knee) and Brazilian Henrique (MCL) are still two weeks off before being back in contention for the Reds.
