Paul Gascoigne has been arrested for drugs offences, sources said today.
The 43-year-old spent the night in police custody on suspicion of possessing a class A substance.
His arrest came days after the troubled former England player was warned he faced jail when he admitted drink driving at Newcastle Magistrates Court.
Gascoigne was held at a house in Burradon, North Tyneside, last night.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday, police attended a property in North Tyneside.
"A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. A second man, aged 43, was later arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.
"Both men are still in custody and inquiries are on going."
