Genc identifies former Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC fringe striker Tolgay Ozbey, 22, as one who he believes can continue on the path from Belmore to the A-League.

"We picked him up from Marconi and he has an X-factor. He can take his game to the A-League," Genc said today.

"He's been unfortunate in the past that the Jets and Sydney FC had signed him but was given limited opportunity."

Ozbey looked handy in a brief spell with Sydney FC in 2006 but has benefited from playing regularly in the top state competition.

Genc, a former Premier League Coach of the Year, guided Ozbey's career in 2007 at Blacktown where the young striker won the league's Golden Boot and Player of the Year in 2007.

At Marconi last season, Ozbey had a disappointing season by his standards. But a return to a club he played for in his youth and re-establishing a link with Genc has the player in promising form going into the new season.

"He's a natural goalscorer and is explosive," Genc says of the 22-year-old. "If he can just get his head right he can probably step up."

The NSW Premier League for 2009 was launched yesterday. Bonnyrigg White Eagles rejoins the league this season with Macarthur Rams relegated to the NSW Super League.

Genc believes it's time fans and media realise that the NSW Premier League deserves more recognition, particularly in its role as a supplier of talent.

Last season, some 15 or so Premier League players were picked up by A-League clubs. Some, like Sydney Olympic's Shannon Cole, moved to Sydney FC where he did enough to earn an Australian call up.

"People make comments like, 'he was only playing Premier League last year', but a lot of good players come through the Premier League system," said Genc.

"Shannon did his time in the Premier League and has had some wonderful performances and obviously got noticed by Sydney FC. And there was Matt Jurman who came through to Sydney FC and Chris Triantis at their youth team."

Genc, capped three times for the Socceroos in the 90s and a former Malaysian League player, added the name Peter McPherson to the list of potential A-League talent.

The 24-year-old Novocastrian spent time in England last year but is seen by Genc as a key part of his plans to win the league. Like Ozbey, McPherson had a brief stint in the A-League making one appearance for the Jets in 2005.

Added Genc: "We're hoping that more players will progress through to A-League clubs in 2009."
