OM went into last night's second leg a goal in arrears, but Hatem Ben Arfa brought the tie level on aggregate by scoring a 25-yard free-kick in the 24th minute.

The game went to spot-kicks and with OM 7-6 up, Twente's Slobodan Rajkovic scooped his effort over as the Dutch side were dumped out.

OM go onto play another Eredivisie team, Ajax, in the next round but Gerets wanted to savour this victory first.

"I am very happy - it's a great day for the club," said the Belgian.

"When you are at OM, you can't allow yourself to belittle the UEFA Cup. We want to go as far as possible. But when I see the behaviour of my players, I am not worried about that.

"Throughout the game, they looked to make up for their poor performance in the first leg. They wanted to show they do know how to play football.

"Even those who had nothing left in them gave all they could."

The only bad news of the night was the injury suffered by central-defensive mainstay Vitorino Hilton, who sustained a muscle strain in his stomach and came off in the 31st minute.

OM say the Brazilian will be out for up to a fortnight.
