Geria played his final match for the Big V on Friday night, coming off the bench in a thrilling 2-1 win over crosstown rivals,  Melbourme City.

The 24-year-old, who is understood to have signed a deal with J2 outfit JEF United, tweeted a video message for Victory fans post-match.

"It's been a privilege to represent this badge for the last six seasons," Geria said.

"It's going to be something different,something new and I'm looking forward to the challenge but I've got a big place in my heart for Melbourne Victory...good luck for the rest of the season."

Victory confirmed it had agreed to release the right back from his contract. The departure comes as Kevin Muscat's men moved within a point of third-placed City on the A-League ladder. 

The club said Geria flagged his desire to join a "Japan-based club and a transfer fee for his services has since been agreed".

It follows the January exit of club captain Mark Milligan to Al-Ahli for $1 million.

Coach Kevin Muscat added: "We're obviously very disappointed to lose another senior player from our squad, but Jason was adamant this was an opportunity that he wanted to pursue.

"Jason has established himself as a regular member of our starting eleven and will be missed, but we're starting to build some solid momentum now and it's important we push on."

Geria made over 130 first team appearances for Victory since joining the club in 2012 and will depart for Japan in the coming days.

He was a key member of Victory's 2014/15 Premiership-Championship and 2015 FFA Cup winning team.
