The decision comes one day after the football organising association pledged similar examination of Russian fan violence.

Germany won the game 1-0, but were nearly cost the result by a segment of unruly supporters.

Throughout the match, German fans threw paper balls at Portuguese players as they attempted to deliver corner kicks, and late in the game some supporters even ignited a smoke bomb.

Fans were repeatedly warned over the PA system that such acts could result in their ejection, sanctions for their team, and even abandonment of the match.

Supporters tested the patience of referee Stephane Lannoy, but the French official allowed play to continue until full-time.

UEFA has declined to comment on whether the German team would face sanctions, but it has been revealed to Goal.com that the governing body will investigate the matter further, and will release a statement after reviewing the incidents.
