The England captain has been struggling with the injury for some time and the decision was taken for Gerrard to have surgery, he has appeared in all 36 Premier League games so far this season.

And Gerrard is eager to get back into action and focus on future challenges.
"It's disappointing but to be honest, (playing every league games) is not a very important personal achievement - what is more important is that I am fit and available for the team," he told the club's official website.
"Between the medical staff and myself we've decided the best decision is to get it done now so I am ready for pre-season  training.
"I'm very disappointed to miss the last two games, but it's at a stage now where it's probably better if another player plays because he'll be able to offer more because the shoulder is quite sore."
Gerrard's team-mate Jordan Henderson is targeting more goals next season, after finding the back of the net six times this season.
"It's always important for midfielders to get goals," Henderson added.
"Hopefully I can keep working on that and get a few more next season.
"Scoring goals has been brilliant for me on a personal level, but I think the team has definitely progressed throughout the season and we can only get stronger and better and we look forward to next season.
"We've played some really good football and won some really good games. We're definitely progressing all the time and we'll look to continue to do so in the last two games and next season."
