Liverpool fell behind to Joleon Lescott's first-half header for the Toffees before Gerrard lashed home an equaliser early in the second half.

The hosts went on to dominate the rest of the match but could not find a winner as Everton held out for a replay.

"For 90 minutes we completely dominated the game, but they've scored off a set-piece and it's frustrating because we've worked on that," Gerrard told Setanta Sports after the game.

"It'll be a tough game (at Goodison Park) but we've done it before so we can go there and win.

"If you look at the chances over the 90 minutes it's disappointing not to win today. What we'll look at today is set-pieces and getting a winning goal."

Gerrard was in court on Friday as he denies charges of a nightclub assault, but he did not look like a player feeling the weight of off-field problems as he spearheaded the Liverpool fightback.

"It's not about me," he said.

"You're obviously happy when you score goals but I'd like to be stood here having not scored but gone through. It's not about me, it's about the team."

He then added: "I'm happy with my performances. I'm a footballer, I'm focused on my football and will continue to show that."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was full of praise for his captain.

"I think he's coping well," he said. "He's a very good professional and he can keep playing well."

Benitez was disappointed with the result and claimed Liverpool were the only team interested in winning the match.

"I think one team was trying to win and one trying not to lose," he said.

"It's a massive difference. It was a pity we couldn't score the second goal.

"I thought the team was really good for the whole game. There was just one mistake, we dominated the game, but you have to score when you have some chances."

However, Benitez believes the performance can give the team confidence as they continue to battle Manchester United in the Premier League.

"I think the quality and character we have shown today is very, very positive," he said.

"We were losing and we have shown character in coming back."

Lescott said afterwards: "I thought we played well in the first half and showed our resilience in the second half.

"We knew it would be tough in the second half but we were confident we could hold out.

"To concede and not hold on to the lead is disappointing - but I'm confident we can do a job at Goodison, although we've got two massive games before the replay against Arsenal and Manchester United.

"It's always good to score but a massive achievement for me to do it in the lcoal derby."

Lescott would not criticise goalkeeper Tim Howard, who might have done better for Gerrard's equaliser.

The former Wolves defender added on Setanta Sports: "He made world class saves after conceding the goal so he's not too down about it."
