STEVEN Gerrard has had an injection in his hip in an effort to play in England's international friendly against Germany on Tuesday.
While there is nothing riding on England's two upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany, Gerrard, who has played a key role in Liverpool's strong start to the English Premier League, is reportedly desperate to take on the Germans.
England manager Roy Hodgson confirmed on Thursday Gerrard will not play Costa Rica but remains a chance to take the field against Germany.
"He's had an injection and he's out of the Chile game but we're hoping he will be OK for the Germany game," Hodgson said.
Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker has also had an injection in his thigh to keep his hopes alive of playing Germany, while Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is a chance to play despite a bruised foot.
