Ghana have been handed a major boost ahead of the African Nations Cup after it was revealed that Michael Essien has started full training following his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Chelsea midfielder took part in full practice at the club's Cobham training ground yesterday, but he is unlikely to feature in the Black Stars' opening game of the competition against Togo next Monday.
The 27-year-old, who is set to be accompanied by a Chelsea doctor to Angola, will only arrive in Cabinda two days before the opening game.
Coach Milovan Rajevac told www.kickoffghana.com: "We received a letter from Chelsea and he has finished his treatment.
"They suggested that he should stay with them for another two days with the club physio and do two days of training with the first team. So he would join us in Angola, probably on Saturday."
His fitness will be a major boost for his country, who are already without captain Stephen Appiah, his deputy John Mensah, John Pantsil and Laryea Kingston through injury.
