In Moyes' first season at Old Trafford, the champions have lost their last two Premier League encounters, including a painful 4-1 humbling at the hands of derby rivals Manchester City.

However, Giggs feels that the squad must shoulder their share of the blame and claims there is "no excuse" for their performances so far this season.

"I can't put my finger on what’s happened," Giggs said. "We have just not played as well as we can both individually and as a team.

"We know the quality in the dressing room. We're the champions so we showed that quality last year and we have to show it again.

"Sir Alex (Ferguson) was a great manager and a great influence on the team and the club. You are going to miss someone like that. But I don’t think that is an excuse when individuals aren’t playing as well as they can.

"We are not playing well as a team. We haven’t got injury problems as we have had in the past - there is no excuse."

Giggs, who made his United debut in 1991, also backed his team-mates to turn the club's season around.

According to the 39-year-old, he has come through tougher patches while at Old Trafford and he feels that United's season is far from over.

"It's not the most difficult season I've had in my career. There have been topsy-turvy seasons in the past. I've been in the team for 20-odd years and I have seen more or less everything," he continued.

"The good thing is that we have plenty of time to turn it around but we need to start doing it quickly.

"It's a weird season. Manchester City have been beaten twice. Nobody has hit the ground running who we'd have expected to. Obviously Arsenal are playing well and Tottenham and Liverpool are at the top, but there is enough time for us to get back to the top and stay there.

"The manager has been okay. He realises we are not playing as well as we can and he wants to put that right. I'm sure he will."
