FEYENOORD captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst will hang up his boots after the World Cup finals at the age of 35.
The former RKC Waalwijk, Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder was named in Bert van Marwijk's 30-man preliminary Holland squad for the competition yesterday.
He will look to sign off in style in South Africa, where the Oranje face Group E games against Denmark, Japan and Cameroon, and admits he is relieved the decision has been made.
"I had doubts for months and the decision to quit wasn't easy," said Van Bronckhorst, who boasts league winners' medals from Scotland, England and Spain.
"But now I feel it is a load off my shoulders. I feel liberated by this decision.
"I look back on my career with pride and gratitude for everything I have achieved and have experienced.
"The World Cup will be a beautiful end."
Van Bronckhorst plans to join the Feyenoord technical staff on his return from South Africa.
