The Suncorp crew heads for EnergyAustralia Stadium on Friday evening anxious to build on a terrific record at the venue.

The Brisbane boys have yet to lose on Newcastle soil with the highlight being the 5-0 thrashing dished out in season one of the A-League.

The Jets goalkeeper on that occasion was a certain Liam Reddy - and he’s not been allowed to forget it.

He sighed: “Yeah, the boys give me some stick about that one, that’s for sure. I remember it well.

"But I’m a Queensland Roar player now and hopefully our good record there can continue. We seem to like playing in that area as we’ve a decent record at Central Coast Mariners as well.”

Not that it will be an easy task as the Jets remain unbeaten in four home matches so far this year.

Reddy knows an old friend will be anxious to keep that record intact. Jets ace Joel Griffiths scored a spectacular equaliser to deny the Roar all three points in round two.

“I’ve known Joel since we were kids," revealed Reddy. "And I’m hoping that he doesn’t produce another free-kick like last time and that I can keep a second clean sheet.

"I’m sure there’ll be plenty of talking on the pitch between us.”

Shut-outs have been in short supply for the man who went into the new season as the leading clean sheet collector in A-League history.

Thankfully, he collected the first of this campaign in last week’s 1-0 win at the Mariners, making a great stop to deny Matt Simon in the dying seconds.

His stop also ensured two wins in a row as Frank Farina’s side looks to generate some momentum.

Reddy said: “It took the shine off a little bit when we conceded that goal so late against Wellington, even though we still won the game.

"As a defensive unit you want to keep clean sheets. We maybe switched off for a fraction of a second and it cost us.”

Goals have been a problem for the Roar over the last year or so although the arrival of Robbie Kruse and Michael Zullo into the first team has provided a huge shot in the arm.

Strikers get blamed for missing opportunities but Reddy feels his fellow members of the goalkeeping union are partly to ‘blame’ this season.

“There have been occasions this year where the other keeper seems to have had a blinder against us," he said.

"There are some very good keepers in this league though. As for the young lads coming in, we have to see if Robbie and Michael can keep doing it but I’m confident they can.

"We’ve two wins in a row now and I think you only have to look at the Mariners and the start they had to the season to see how momentum can really push you on.”
