Bundesliga strugglers Borussia Monchengladbach have snapped up full-back Paul Stalteri following his release from Tottenham.
The Canada captain had his contract with Spurs cancelled by mutual consent yesterday and has wasted little time in securing a move back to Germany, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with Monchengladbach.
The 31-year-old made 151 appearances in seven years for Werder Bremen before moving to White Hart Lane in 2005.
He was a regular first-team starter in his first season in England but then struggled to keep his place, leading him to join Fulham on loan in January for the remainder of the 2007/08 campaign.
Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the club's official website, www.borussia.de: "Paul has the versatility to play in a number of positions across the back four.
"He can play on the left as well as the right."
Monchengladbach are currently bottom of the Bundesliga, having taken just 11 points from their opening 17 games.
On a busy day of transfer activity at Borussia Park, Monchengladbach also completed deals for Belgian goalkeeper Logan Bailly and experienced Czech midfielder Tomas Galasek.
Bailly, 23, joins from Genk and has agreed a contract until June 2013.
Eberl said: "He is an extroverted goalkeeper who has a good presence.
"We are pleased to have got him on a long-term basis."
Galasek will offer guile and know-how to the midfield after completing a switch from Banik Ostrava.
The 35-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the season.
He has previous Bundesliga experience with Nurnberg and has also played in Holland with Willem II and Ajax.
