Perth Glory will chase the four-goal victory they need against Melbourne City on Sunday to secure a home final, according to attacking duo Richard Garcia and Andy Keogh.
Glory sits fifth on the ladder with one round to play, needing a four-goal win to leapfrog City into the top four when the two sides clash at nib Stadium on Sunday.
It’s an improbable scenario but one which Perth haven’t given up on.
“It’s a fantastic incentive to be able to go out there and score four goals and get that home final,” Garcia said.
“There’s no reason why we can’t. It’s a home game, it’s Easter Sunday, there’s a lot up for stake.
“In our minds we think we can do it which is the most important thing.”
Keogh reiterated Garcia’s optimism, particularly given Glory has netted 48 goals this term, the equal second most in the A-League.
“Of course we just go for it,” Keogh said.
“It’s in our hands so it should be an enjoyable game to watch.
“It’s important because then you don’t have to do back-to-back away trips and it’d be nice for the people of Perth to have a home final as well.”
A key factor for Glory will be the fitness of marquee Diego Castro after he was replaced early in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Brisbane.
Castro limped off after a heavy tackle from Jacob Pepper but coach Kenny Lowe said his substitution was precautionary.
Keogh added that Castro was expected to return to training this week.
The Irishman added that Glory were far from satisfied with their season, having now clinched their finals berth.
“Inconsistent. Great one week, not so great the other,” he said.
“We’ve leaked too many goals as a team, not just as a defensive unit, but the whole team together.
“It’s something that needs to be worked on. It’s great playing all this attacking football but you can’t be scoring three or four every week to win games.
“It’s something we need to work on definitely.”
