Perth Glory have fended off a reported bid by new boy rivals Western United to retain flying fullback Jason Davidson on a new deal.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong debut campaign with Glory since arriving last year, starting 21 games and scoring twice.
But Western United were said to have him in their sights as they put together a squad for their A-League debut next season.
Today though Glory confirmed Davidson would be in purple again next season and the former Socceroo said he was thrilled to be staying in the west.
“I want to continue to be a part of something special,” he said. “The success the club is striving for is something I want to help achieve and I feel fortunate to be a part of a team unit that is so strong on and off the pitch.
“It’s great to have come back to play in Australia and hit the ground running with a team that is playing so well.”
Glory football director Jacob Burns hailed the impact that the man with 22 Socceroos caps to his name has made this term.
“Jason has been in great form and is clearly thriving under the guidance of [Head Coach] Tony Popovic and the rest of the club's coaching staff," he said.
"He has made a significant contribution to the team’s success this season and we look forward to his continued performances as we build for the future.
“As with many of our players, we beat off stiff competition from other clubs when we initially signed him and again now when we sought to retain his services.”
Glory CEO Tony Pignata, meanwhile, praised the defender’s determination and winning mentality.
“Jason has really bought into our club’s vision of sustained success,” he said.
“He wants to continue to be an important figure in a team that is not only challenging for honours and silverware this season, but on a consistent basis in the future.”
