Glory moved up to fourth with a 2-2 home draw with last season’s beaten grand finalists Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.

Perth are some seven points behind leaders Sydney but having beaten the Sky Blues at Allianz Stadium in recent seasons, plus with a 3-2 win at Melbourne City earlier this term, have reason for belief.

However, Glory assistant coach Andy Ord, who took the reins against Wanderers with Kenny Lowe serving out his two-game suspension, said winning at Sydney would be a big jump for Perth.

“That’s the challenge,” Ord said.

“We’ve had a couple of wins over there in the last two seasons. We beat them 2-1 last year and 2-1 the year before.

“We know we can win there. It never used to be a place we could win at. There’s no reason why we can’t.

“We’ve got to probably get better in quite a few areas to be serious about going there and winning.

“If you can go there and take three points and deserve it, you really set your season up.”

Ord wasn’t convinced Sydney would be the A-League benchmark despite their perfect start to the season.

“They’ve got the results on the board,” he said. “I saw the game last night and I don’t think they deserved to win, but they did and that’s what counts.

“They’re leading the pack but I think a lot of teams are quite similar.

“Brisbane are a good team, they showed that the other night, Melbourne City there’s all the hype around, Melbourne Victory will be good at the end of the year, Sydney are leading the way.

“We want to be in that mix and that’s what we’re all aiming for. We need to take a few steps to be consistently taking three points off these teams week-in week-out.”

Ord said Glory got what they deserved against Wanderers, which was only a point.

“I thought they shaded the first half overall,” he said.

“Second half, we huffed and puffed. I think you can’t criticize anybody’s effort.

“It wasn’t enough, we didn’t threaten them enough.”
