Glory has a strong history in the cup, having made both finals but ultimately being unsuccessful in both.

Last season’s beaten preliminary finalists Brisbane represent a significant first-up test for Glory, particularly on the road.

Spanish marquee Diego Castro is unavailable for the game as he’s yet to re-join Glory in pre-season and won’t even arrive in Perth until later this month.

Ex-Fulham striker Adam Taggart, who is a virtual new signing, trained separate from the main group last week and won’t make the trip.

Injury-prone utility Rhys Williams has looked fit and been training well and is likely to debut against Roar, along with A-League journeyman keeper Liam Reddy while English recruit Joseph Mills is a chance too.

Chris Herd’s contract was terminated mutually a fortnight ago for family reasons but Rostyn Griffiths has joined in a virtual like-for-like replacement and is also fit to play.

“The lads are getting fitter. People are coming back from injury,” Keogh told FourFourTwo.

“Things look good. It’s unfortunate that Herdy (Chris Herd) didn’t join us but I’m sure the gaffer has something up his sleeve to replace him.”

Keogh netted a double in Glory’s first-ever FFA Cup match but said there wasn’t much focus on the club’s proud history in the tournament.

“Our focus is on winning the game,” Keogh said.

“Whatever comes after that, everyone wants to win a cup and we’re no different.”

Glory has been back in pre-season training since June 20 and enjoyed a three-game tour of the Philippines last week.

Keogh said there was now genuine excitement around their first competitive fixture.

“We’ve been working hard,” he said.

“The lads are looking good, we’re looking forward to our first competitive game.

“It’ll be a good test away to Brisbane who showed last season that they’re a team capable of putting on some good performances.”
