Perth Glory have secured their first win of the Hyundai A-League season after a hard-earned 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix in the Distance Derby at nib Stadium on Sunday.
After no goals were scored in an even first half, Glory broke the deadlock just three minutes after the break after Diego Castro converted a penalty.
Andy Keogh then missed a second penalty for the home side on the hour mark but it mattered little as a Nebojsa Marinkovic rocket doubled Glory’s advantage six minutes later.
Despite their best efforts, Phoenix were unable to find a way back into the match and have now started the season with back-to-back defeats.
GOALS:
1-0 Perth Glory: Diego Castro (pen) 48’
Phoenix defender Adam Parkhouse was adjudged to have tripped Chris Harold in the box to gift the home side a penalty. Castro made no mistake, sending keeper Glen Moss the wrong way for his second goal of the season.
2-0 Perth Glory: Nebojsa Marinkovic 66’
Josh Risdon broke free down the right for Glory, surging into the box before cutting it back to Marinkovic. The Serbian hit a sweet first-time effort from just inside the box which blazed past Moss into the roof of the net.
