Perth Glory is refusing to be drawn on mounting speculation that star recruit Rhys Williams is headed for the exit with 18 months still left on his contract.
The 28-year-old is reportedly a high profile target of the January transfer window with Sydney FC and clubs in Asia and the Middle East declaring interest.
Glory boss Peter Filopoulos is playing his cards close to his chest regarding the future of the former Middlesbrough player.
“I just deal with facts and certainties in life,” Filopoulos said of the 14-capped Socceroo.
“Rhys is a contracted player, he’s a required player, he’s attending training every day and we’re both meeting our obligations under his player contract.
"That’s it. I’m not entering into any speculation. All I can say to you is he’s a contracted player."
The Perth native was lured back to his home town to reboot his career after it was stalled by a string of lengthy injury lay-offs which ruled him out of the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
On Saturday, coach Kenny Lowe raised eyebrows when he left the defender out of the matchday squad that was thumped 4-1 by Sydney FC.
But Filopoulos said the omission had nothing to do a letter of interest from the Sky Blues.
"We can confirm that Sydney sent a letter but we promptly reminded them that Rhys has another year to run after this one and they’ve apologised for the oversight," Filopoulos told FourFourTwo on Sunday.
"This time of the year players who have six months left (on their contracts), clubs are entitled to approach them.
"As a courtesy they write to the club involved to say they have intentions of speaking to their player. Those letters are flying all over the A-League at the moment.
"However in Rhys Williams scenario he’s got another year to run beyond this one. It doesn’t apply."
Glory was hailed for their shrewd recruitment leading into this season with the likes of former Golden Boot winner Adam Taggart and Shane Lowry joining the A-League outfit.
However the side has failed to live up to the early hype and currently sits in sixth spot on the ladder after 11 rounds.
