Glory suffered their first defeat of the 2016/17 A-League campaign at Suncorp Stadium, with Lowe suspended for the game after a verbal barrage aimed at the referees in the round three win over Melbourne City.

Lowe was unable to deliver the half-time address due to the ban and will also sit out Sunday’s home match against Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Glory coach said he gave the players something to think about during training this week.

“The ultimate thing in the game, you’ve got to remember, people have got to take responsibility for performance,” Lowe said.

“You prepare them during the week but if you don’t execute things you’ve worked on or highlighted, maybe we have to deliver it a different way to get the message across.

“If we delivered it correctly then the players need to take responsibility for the performance they put in.

“Such is life. They all love a pat on the back but sometimes they deserve a kick up the arse.”

Glory looks likely to be without captain Rostyn Griffiths due to a neck injury which forced him off against Brisbane Roar.

Adam Taggart (calf) continues to struggle while Nebojsa Marinkovic (ankle) missed training on Friday, but Lowe expected him to play.

Speaking about Griffiths, Lowe said: “He hasn’t trained this week. You’ve got to be careful. I don’t know to be honest.

“You just compact the issue and churn it and churn it and it becomes a chronic issue. Maybe we’re better off getting it right.”
