The mining magnate has made an offer for the 34-year-old striker, report O Kosmos columnists Tony and Xanthie Rallis, and the player is considering the move.

If signed the former Fiorentina and Boavista star, who’s played 77 times for his country with a return of 29 goals, would provide another attacking option for coach Miron Bleiberg who saw his side draw blanks on Sunday in their A-League opener.

Gomes still has a year to run on his contract with the Portuguese giant but would fit into the salary cap under the new two marquee rule.

However, any deal between the two parties is on hold due to the sudden passing of Gomes' father last week.

The Portuguese veteran may just boost Gold Coast’s troubling crowd figures after last Sunday’s disappointing 6000 plus crowd for the M1 derby against Brisbane Roar.

Palmer recently made audacious offers for Spanish star Raul – who’s since signed with Germany’s Schalke – and Frenchman Robert Pires. The current free agent and former Gunner is said to be mulling over offers from the UAE.

Bleiberg has publicly acknowledging the Pires link and has lauded the former Villareal star as someone who could add much needed quality to his team.

In other A-League news, Central Coast Mariners youth international duo Trent Sainsbury and Mark Warren have returned from their two week stint with Sheffield United.

It’s believed the Blades were so impressed with Sainsbury they are said to have offered a further three month invitation with a view at signing him to a long-term deal.

But it’s likely the Gosford-based A-League club will retain the starlet for at least another 12 months to allow him to develop further before heading to Europe again.
