EXCLUSIVE: Gold Coast United will be officially presented with their A-League licence today but North Queensland's bid still has work to do before it ticks all FFA boxes.
"We always knew there'd be a delay because we put our business plan much later than others and they needed to put that to the board," Don Matheson, North Queensland FC bid head, told au.fourfourtwo.com this morning.
"Once that was done we'd need a week or two from our side of things. There's nothing dramatic about that. We need to do the formal things between the lawyers and presenting the documentation we promised we would."
The FFA are on the Gold Coast this morning where they will present Clive Palmer's franchise with the ninth A-League licence. However, licence ten has still a way to go.
"We're not that perturbed about losing two weeks. I wouldn't read too much into it. We're more concerned about whether the board lets us in or not. And what we hope is that in a couple of weeks, having a signing up here [in Townsville]."
According to sources, the FFA is angling towards investing in the club. Matheson denies there has been any investment discussion.
"If they want to, we're happy to take them on-board but we've three other sources we're talking to.
"But we're happy to fall back onto the FFA for advice in football and structural matters but we haven't spoken to them about investment matters."
He added: "We're happy with what we've presented." Matheseon also denied any investment for the franchise had fallen through in the last few days.
"I'm expecting a media release to come out saying one way or another but I reckon they'll announce us both today. But I can't speak for the FFA."
