Waiting outside Telstra Stadium in the hope of catching a glimps of their idol, the couple didn't think they would get near their hero.

But as Beckham's high-powered motorcade swept out of the stadium after LA Galaxy's light training session, the Englishman ordered the driver to stop.

And with window rolled down, Becks beckoned the couple over.

He signed the back of their shirts and briefly chatted with them and a gaggle of startled onlookers.

“He's such a champ. I can't believe he did that. It's awesome. Wow, shit, oh my god,” an excited Grace told au.fourfourtwo.com.

“He didn't say much but who cares,” said her fiance Adam. "He's just the person he is. He is so down to earth and balanced.

He added: “I asked Grace to marry me on Beckham's birthday. We came all the way from Adelaide for this game.”

Added Grace: “Adam is always copying his haircuts and stuff. Unsuccessfully. But I'd like to say to he is a champion and it means so much to us.

“We really appreciate it. For someone of his stature to do this, oh, man.”
