ADELAIDE United defender Antony Golec is on his way to China for a medical ahead of a possible move to Chinese Super League club Liaoning Whowin.
Golec wanted to try his luck abroad after being frozen out of the Reds first XI and today the club said it would approve the request for him to travel to China.
“There was an expression of interest from a Chinese club for Antony’s services and he told us it is an opportunity he would like to explore,” said Adelaide United General Manager Michael Petrillo.
“In the unlikely event that the medical doesn't work out then the door is open for him to return to Adelaide.
“We can understand it has been a tough season for Antony as he’s found it hard to break into the first team, but he goes with our best wishes and hopefully things work out for him over there.”
Golec thanked the club for letting him go and for the chance he was given with the Reds, appearing 28 times for the club and scoring two goals since joining in 2011.
“It was a difficult decision leaving the club I’ve been at for three years but I leave knowing that this club’s door is always open,” Golec said.
“I’d like to thank the fans for all of their support throughout my time in Adelaide, I have met a lot of great people and am grateful for the opportunity the club has given me.," he said.
“Now I’m ready for what is an exciting new chapter for me, I’ve always had ambitions to play abroad and I feel that this is the right time for me to go.”
