Gomez, who began the match as a substitute, insisted he respected his manager's decision, but suggested he would have scored if he had been picked.

"The coach names the team and the players have to accept it, that's what I did," he told reporters.

"Of course I wanted to play, I think I would have scored, but that's not important."

Germany will play the winners of Italy and England's quarter-final, which takes place on Sunday.

The 26-year-old admitted his replacement did a good job against Greece, and that he is waiting to see what the manager's decision is for the next game.

"Miroslav Klose did very well today and now we just have to see what happens in the next game," Gomez said.
