Craig Goodwin and Kenneth Dougall's Sparta Rotterdam suffered a shock exit from the Dutch Cup on Tuesday.
Both Aussies were named in the starting XI for the away clash against RKC Waalwijk in the KNVB Beker.
Goodwin was looking to impress after being named in Ange Postecoglou's extended 30-man squad for the upcoming play-offs with Syria.
And against RKC Waalwijk - who are sitting in the relegation zone in the Netherlands' second division - Sparta were the clear favourites.
But it turned out to be a difficult evening for the Eredivisie side, struggling to break down the club from the South of the country.
Waalwijk eventually took the lead just after the hour mark through Dylan Seys, and were able to hold onto their advantage for the rest of the match.
