Grella's national team form has dipped in recent games and he missed the final two games of the World Cup campaign to allow youngster Carl Valeri a chance to shine in the holding role.

But Grella is more concerned about the effect his national team contributions have had on his club career which has been on a rollercoaster since moving to Blackburn Rovers two season ago.

After a career spent in Italy until his move to the Premier League alongside Socceroo teammate Brett Emerton, Grella has struggled to hold down his first team spot with a string of injuries, bookings and suspensions.

Now Grella wants to focus on his club career - even if it means he's played his last game for Australia.

The 30 year odl veteran of two World Cup campaigns Grella is unlikely to make it to Brazil 2014 with the yet to be announced new Australia coach - but he could have been an option for next year's Asian Cup.

HoweverGrella is purely targeting his place at Blackburn for now to ensure he deserves any fresh national team call up.

”I think the most important thing is playing well at club level, being fit and in good form so that when I do join up with the national team I can be a big player, someone who can be a real contributor” said the 30-year-old,

“I felt that in the last year-and-a-half, I had not been able to present myself properly at club level because of the demands involved in playing with the national team.

”I want the new manager to watch me playing in the Premier League and pick me on form and fitness.

”I don’t just want to be included in Australian squads because my name is Vince Grella and I have been around for a long time and am just part of the furniture,”

Grella has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, but he dismissed the rumours although he may yet move elsewhere if it means regular game time.

”I want to be a regular first-team player with my club, whether that is in England or elsewhere,” he said.

”The EPL asks a lot of questions of your body and I want to be able to give it one good year to really show what I can do.

"There have been some niggling small injuries that I picked up with the Socceroos that have set me back in my career at Blackburn.

"All the games are physically tough and demanding in England. It’s not a league like Italy, Spain or Germany.”
