The Blackburn midfielder is looking for Australia to score a second win in South Africa, after defeating Denmark 1-0 earlier in the week.

"All top level athletes want to win. You can't play at this level if you're not a strong competitor.

"We want to have a good game, sure. We know the legs won't be as fresh as we want them to be - that's part of the preparation. But we're looking to have a positive game," Grella told AAP.

It appears likely that nine of Verbeek's best 11 will start again in Johannesburg with Brett Emerton (calf) and Harry Kewell (groin) unlikely to be risked

The gruelling training camp has continued and Grella, heavily linked to Turkish side Galatasaray, is enjoying the tough sessions.

"I feel good. I haven't trained this many days in the last two years," Grella joked.

He added: "For me, I'm enjoying the football, I'm enjoying the training."

The 30-year-old sees the side getting a possible confidence boost with a good performance against the United States.

"[The game] is an important part of the preparation. We are looking forward to the game. We want to make sure we perform well, and it's good to get that confidence before we get ready for the Germany game.''

Grella's two seasons at Blackburn have been riddled by injury and he admits the rumours linking him to a move to Galatasaray have come at a bad time.

"It's pretty bad timing. I didn't really want to get into these questions in a World Cup, such an important time in my football season," he said.

For Australia and the USA, the friendly is the final hit out before huge group matches against Germany and England respectively.

Friendlies have been treated as training runs for Verbeek who dismissed his interest in a result and pointed towards "tactical organisation".
